11/30/11 The Messiah of Isaac's Line

Day 4- 11/30/11- First candle of advent- Jesus was prophesied to be of Isaac’s Line

12 But God said to him, “Do not be so distressed about the boy and your slave woman. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned. (Genesis 21:12)

23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”), 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”(Luke 2:23-24)

17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18 even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” 19 Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death. (Hebrews 11:17-19)

Thoughts: There was wondering with only one son, and all the stars and sand of God’s blessing dependent on his life, if he would make it.  Abraham was willing to give up his only son through his wife, and God blessed him for that.  Perhaps God was thinking of when he would give up his only son on the cross for the sins of humanity.  It is through Isaac (“laughter”) that the seed would be recognized. God took the one, made him many, but the importance of one life again showed itself in the Messiah.  Each life is a gift from God.  Isaac was precious.  Jesus is precious.  Each person is not an accident, but is uniquely created by God.

Prayer: Thank you for your plan, and your valuing of my life.
